Vegetarian to Vegan…my journey

January 23, 2009

Que pasa? So with the New Year comes new outlooks, changes, improvements, etc etc!! On NYE I didn’t make any resolutions, but I did clean house and get rid of some things that I didn’t need anymore in my life.  In order to clean house physically and spiritually, I went on the Daniel Fast – 10 days of fruits and vegetables and water, some 100% fruit juice here and there.

Alot of churches start their new year with this fast and I decided to do it as well; my church wasn’t doing it, but  friend’s church was going to do it for 16 days…16 days!?! I thought that was CRAZY!!! but, guess what, here I am 22 days later loving life and embracing my vegan diet!

Now, the Daniel fast stems from a time in the Bible when Daniel refused to eat the king’s vile food and told them to test he and his friends for 10 days to see who was stronger, Daniel and his friends or the other men, after just eating vegetables and water.  Ofcourse, after the 10 days, Daniel and his friends were stronger than the other men because they only ate vegetables and water.

In this book I have, “Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough,” it also showed me that the Daniel fast is used for healing and cleansing and ofcourse, growing closer to God.  I started out on my spiritual journey and came out with a new way of life!

After the first couple of days, I couldn’t fathom how I could just eat fruits and vegetables, but by the thrid day, I found myself getting full and was satisfied and never hungry.  The human body is a funny thing and it’s interesting to see what you can and cannot live with or without!

Since I am a vegetarian, it was quite easy for me to adjust, but I did miss my eggs, brown rice and quesadillas.  After the fifth day, those cravings subsided and I became an amazing chef! I have been cooking everyday since January 2, 2009 and I love it!  I’ve come up with many great vegan recipes that are so good and satisfying! I also made lots of fun smoothies using organic almond and coconut milk; there is nothing better than a fresh fruit smoothie for breakfast!

So yeah, here I sit, day 22 and I really do not miss the foods I used to eat as a vegetarian! I really think I am going to go full on vegan.  After shopping organic and vegan for these past weeks, I have seen the light, lol! Not to mention, there are so many great vegan and organic products out there that are great for you and are yummy!!

As I type this, I just had a yummy tofu stir fry and am having a bowl of grapes, strawberries and peaches for desert! Eating this way has shwon me alot about my own will power, and has put me more in tune with my body.  When you pay close attention to what goes in your body you will automatically give it the freshest, organic, good for you foods. I know my body is loving me for it!!

Ciao, Ciao

B, the Fashionista AND Vegan hahaha!

Vogue is wrong for this…

January 13, 2009

Gossip girl on the cover of the February Vogue…seriously Vogue, SERIOUSLY!?!?! ugh!!! I’m SO glad my subscription has ended! Vogue, you suck! You have sucked for many moons, but this right here is like a slap in the face! So last month you do this FANTASTICAL spread with Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn towards the back of the mag in the slimmest Vogue ever!  That spread was the saving grace for the January Vogue.  Ummm, couldn’t you have put Michelle Obama on the cover? I mean, she is going to be part of the first family in a matter of days! You have put other 1st ladies on the cover, but I digress!

February is also Fashion Week in New York! Could you have maybe put some awesome new models on the cover or a shining starlet to the fashion design world on the cover in honor of all that is Fashion Week?!  Or maybe address the fact that many big name fashion houses have backed out of showing due to the economic down turn? Oh well, maybe I’m crazy for wanting to see F A S H I O N on the cover of Vogue…ugh! just, ugh! Vogue, you blow! that is all. (That bracelet, I believe is Erickson Beamon, one of my favorite jewelry lines, is so super fierce though! 😦

Lanvin Lust
Lanvin Lust by VaFashionista

I love the Lanvin house for their exquisitely feminine dresses and impeccably unique handbags & clutches! I also love the fun, playful side where you don’t have to be so serious about fashion, but look uberly haute while wearing any piece from Lanvin. The t shirts are so cheeky and those shoes need a definite place in my closet!

LaRok to your own beat
LaRok to your own beat by VaFashionista

Ok, this LaRok coat is like the ULTIMATE coat!!! Trust and believe if I catch this thing on sale I will not hesitate to grab it up! I have been eyeing it since I saw it in a magazine many, many months ago. It’s the epitome of the perfect jacket!  Slim, feminine cut with the very necessary multi-layer chain detail.  The piping on the cuffs and collar just take it to the next level.  PS – I’m in love with those spin art jeans! Remember doing spin art as a little child??

Ok, this is by far my favorite! You take a dainty LaRok dress and pair it with some enchanting heels or boots and you’re good to go! Of all of the footwork choices, those sequined Marc Jacobs booties and the twig heels are my favorite!

Lace Chanel Sunglasses…yes!!!

Polyvore makes life F*u*N*

January 7, 2009

Polyvore is my creative outlet.  I go over there, pick a piece or theme I love and make a set centered around that one piece or theme.  I am trying to figure out what I can do with these sets.  For now, I will post them on Polyvore and here for your viewing pleasure, lol! Enjoy

Black Betty by VaFashionista

That fur gillet drives me crazy!!! I ADORE it, to pieces!!! Those Gucci flat boots with the fringe at the top drive me wild! I So need them in my life!!!

Indigo Royale by VaFashionista

Obviously, the theme was purple 🙂 It’s my favorite color so I had to make a set with all purple.  I submitted this set in a contest on Polyvore so I hope I win!

Cultured Pearl by VaFashionista

I have always loved those traditional Chinese dresses, Cheongsam, because of the intricate detail and sumptuous silk used.  I also have a thing for pearls, thanks to my mom gifting me my first set of pearls – earrings, bracelet and necklace – when I was a wee 5 year old.  I still remember the cute tinkerbell jewelry box she gave me to put them in! Anyways, this set was inspired by the Cheongsam and my love of pearls.
